Marthijn de Groot is geboren te Amsterdam op 1 december 1968. Hij volgt de opleiding aan de Gerrit Rietveld Academie te Amsterdam, gevolgd door de Minerva Academie te Groningen. Hij werkt achtereenvolgens in Zuidbarge van 1988 tot 1993, in 1993 in Saint Ambroix, van 1993 tot 1994 in Angelslo (Emmen), van 1996 tot 2000 in Atelier de Factory in Groningen, van 2004 tot 2007 in Amsterdam en vanaf 2008 in atelier Le Cariol in Naussannes, Frankrijk. Marthijn de Groot is beeldhouwer, schilder, action painter, tekenaar en keramist.

In his imagery Marthijn de Groot shows himself to be a passionate. Emotional involvement is in every fibre of his being. ‘I am a rebel rooted in love.’ He is artist, philosopher and lover with a sensitive, critical and social mind. His philosophy, honesty and conviction are the source of his work. Painting as a distillation of his life history.
